Minas de Carvão de S. Pedro da Cova encerraram há 45 anos. Trabalhadores recordam “tempos difíceis” no I Encontro organizado pela Junta e Museu Mineiro

A data de 25 de março de 1970 está gravada na memória de grande parte da população de S. Pedro da Cova como o dia em que mais de 700 trabalhadores foram despedidos das Minas de Carvão da freguesia. Um misto de sentimentos envolve, ainda nos dias de hoje, alguns ex-mineiros e funcionários que recordam o emprego que lhes permitia sobreviver mas também “a escravidão” vivida durante parte dos 170 anos de funcionamento das minas e as vidas de amigos e colegas que se foram perdendo no exercício das suas profissões. A União das Freguesias de Fânzeres e S. Pedro da Cova e o Museu Mineiro decidiram agora juntar estas “vozes do passado” num primeiro encontro de trabalhadores, 45 anos depois. O Vivacidade recolheu algumas dessas memórias.

Ana Martins de Oliveira tem 90 anos e dedicou 17 ao trabalho nas Minas de Carvão de S. Pedro da Cova. Atualmente, passa grande parte do seu tempo no Centro de Dia da Associação Social Estrelas de Silveirinhos. Ao Vivacidade, conta como era difícil “viver das minas” a empurrar vagonetas [carrinhos de transporte de carvão], um trabalho ainda assim menos “arriscado” que o dos homens. “Eles trabalhavam lá em baixo, as mulheres não. Era um trabalho muito duro, uma escravidão, mas era onde podíamos ganhar dinheiro. Fiz muitas coisas: partia carvão, escolhia carvão, entre outras coisas. Ia buscar a marmita à cantina, mas passávamos muitos trabalhos. Trabalhávamos 8 horas por dia. Ganhávamos sete escudos e depois passamos a ganhar 11 escudos”, afirma Ana Oliveira.
