Servir o pequeno-almoço todos os dias às crianças e jovens do Bairro do Choupal, em Maputo, Moçambique, é o principal objetivo da campanha “Unidos por Moçambique”, liderada pela Irmã Alice, da Congregação das Irmãs da Caridade do Sagrado Coração de Jesus.
Fundar uma comunidade de apoio à população local, em especial às crianças e jovens do Bairro do Choupal, situado em Maputo, Moçambique, é a missão liderada pela Irmã Alice Rocha, do Colégio Madre Isabel Larranaga, instituição sediada em S. Cosme.
“Fui para Moçambique, em 1971, pela primeira vez, e sempre gostei de missões para apoiar crianças. No ano passado, um pai de um aluno nosso desafiou-me a ir para Moçambique novamente e eu aceitei imediatamente”, começa por dizer a freira.
O regresso a Moçambique contou com o acolhimento do arcebispo Dom Francisco Chimoio que apoiou a causa desde o primeiro momento. “O arcebispo desafiou-nos a ir ver a realidade no local e levou-nos a alguns lugares onde achava necessária a nossa intervenção. Hoje, estamos a operar num bairro a 10 quilómetros da capital, onde damos, nas nossas instalações, apoio a crianças após o período escolar”, refere a irmã.
A ação da comitiva “Unidos por Moçambique” foi recentemente ampliada à Escola “São Domingos Sábio Hivamakwavu”. O apoio alimentar e pedagógico é prestado a crianças dos seis aos 15 anos que, segundo a freira, “não vivem em família e passam o dia na rua”.
O apelo da irmã Alice dirige-se a todos os interessados em apoiar diretamente a causa através de donativos monetários, alimentos ou livros pedagógicos.
“Há grandes carências em Moçambique, em vários setores. Há crianças a ir para as aulas sem comer. O pequeno-almoço dos meninos é o jantar do dia anterior, quando sobra, e depois só comem por volta das 17h. Quando os pais dão aos miúdos dinheiro para comprar pão, eles acabam por comprar gelo porque faz muito calor em Moçambique”, conclui a irmã Alice Rocha.
Pais dos alunos associam-se à causa
No colégio, o apelo dirigido aos pais foi correspondido com contributos de vários encarregados de educação dos alunos do Colégio Madre Isabel Larranaga. No entanto, a campanha está aberta a toda a comunidade.
