A deputada do CDS-PP, Cecília Meireles, acompanhada pelos deputados Álvaro Castello-Branco e Pedro Mota Soares, questionaram o Ministério do Ambiente e a ARS-Norte sobre os resíduos depositados nas antigas minas de São Pedro da Cova.
Os deputados do CDS enviaram à Administração Regional de Saúde do Norte um requerimento sobre os danos para a saúde dos resíduos depositados nas antigas minas de São Pedro da Cova, acompanhado por uma pergunta feita ao Ministro do Ambiente com a intenção de saber se já foi tomada, ou está prevista, alguma medida para o apuramento da quantidade exata de resíduos ainda existentes nas escombreiras das antigas minas e a sua completa remoção.
Em comunicado, o partido centrista recorda que “tem alertado para o problema dos resíduos depositados nas antigas minas desde 2009, quando, em maio desse ano, Nuno Melo questionou pela primeira vez o Ministério do Ambiente acerca do depósito feito, a céu aberto, em S. Pedro da Cova de 320 mil toneladas de resíduos considerados altamente perigosos”.
Recorde-se que em abril de 2015 passou a ser do conhecimento público que foram identificados resíduos perigosos localizados na área de intervenção, tendo então, sido assumidos compromissos de novas avaliações à quantidade efetiva de resíduos existentes no local.
