O Benfica conquistou a 68ª edição da Taça de Portugal em basquetebol, no Multiusos de Gondomar. As “águias” derrotaram o CAB Madeira na final por 85-67, contudo, a vitória foi apenas garantida na segunda parte, pois ao intervalo a vantagem do Benfica era apenas de um ponto (40-39).
Os “encarnados” comandaram sempre o jogo e apenas no final do segundo período não alcançaram uma grande vantagem no marcador. A formação madeirense até recuperou a desvantagem, mas foi incapaz de segurar a exibição superior do Benfica depois disso.
Carlos Morais foi o MVP, com 26 pontos e quatro ressaltos conquistados, seguido por Damian Hollis, com 19 pontos e três triplos consecutivos no terceiro período. Do lado dos madeirenses, Fred Gentry foi o melhor marcador, com 14 pontos.
De resto, o acerto no tiro exterior terá sido decisivo para o Benfica, com 14 triplos convertidos em 25 tentados.
Esta é a 22ª Taça de Portugal nesta modalidade para o clube da Luz e o quatro troféu “encarnado” consecutivo.
